Converting excess manure and poultry litter to renewable energy offers farmers valuable opportunities to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve on-farm manure management while addressing regional nutrient imbalances. Technologies that concentrate manure nutrients and facilitate long-distance transport to fields where they are needed are especially valuable in regions of the Bay where more animal manure is produced than local crops need as a fertilizer.

Sustainable Chesapeake has been leading regional, collaborative efforts to demonstrate, evaluate, and improve performance of these promising technologies. Check out our projects to learn more.
